A READING FROM John

34Jesus answered them, “Very truly, I tell you, everyone who commits sin is a slave to sin. 35The slave does not have a permanent place in the household; the son has a place there forever. 36So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed.”

MESSAGE IN A PARAGRAPH OR TWO

We talk a lot about freedom in this country. You know, it’s political freedom and freedom with rights. That’s not the kind of freedom Jesus is talking about. He is talking about the freedom to be yourself, who you were created to be, a child of God. We were created in God’s image. It is a image of love, service, and grace. When we get away from that and act more like a child created by the world, he forgives. So, the Son set us free to be who we were created to be, no matter where or what form of government in the world we live.
