A READING FROM JOHN

14 And the Word became flesh and lived among us, and we have seen his glory, the glory as of a father’s only son, full of grace and truth. 15 (John testified to him and cried out, “This was he of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me ranks ahead of me because he was before me.’ ”) 16 From his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace.

MESSAGE IN A PARAGRAPH OR TWO

In the Message translation of the Bible it says, “And the Word became flesh and moved into the neighborhood. I like that. God’s Word has taken on human form. Jesus is God’s Word. God’s Word lives among us, in the neighborhood. It certainly doesn’t seem that way sometimes, does it? But Jesus is near full of grace and truth.

There are many self-serving versions of truth around us. God’s truth dwells among us. Even more the Word made flesh is full of grace.

As we reflect on 2024, it might be spiritually to think about how many times we have been recipients of God’s grace upon grace. How often have we each been forgiven. I’m thankful that the Word made flesh has moved into the neighborhood.
