A READING FROM JEREMIAH
7 Blessed are those who trust in the Lord,
whose trust is the Lord.
8 They shall be like a tree planted by water,
sending out its roots by the stream.
It shall not fear when heat comes,
and its leaves shall stay green;
in the year of drought it is not anxious,
and it does not cease to bear fruit.
message in a paragraph or two
The lesson from Jeremiah is a list of blessings and woes. The woes are about people who put their trust in the wrong places. Those who put their trust in mere mortals are actually cursed. Thar 4000 year message continues to be relevant. Those who trust in mortal leaders are happy when the leaders benefit them, and disgruntled when they do not benefit from the leader. They focus cannot be on the Kord.
But those whose trust is rooted in the Lord are able to withstand all kinds of difficulties. They continue to bear fruit. They praise and worship God. They are kind and help those in need. They use their faith to encourage others. They pray.
